💔 Love, Survival, and Unspoken Truths: A Heartfelt Look at The Hunger Games

Rating: 4.75/5

PS: This is an updated version of a review I first shared over on X (Twitter)!

This book was truly wonderful — an emotional ride filled with raw moments and unforgettable characters.

Peeta Mellark completely stole my heart. From the very beginning, he’s kind, thoughtful, and unwavering in his care for Katniss. Even when everything around them is chaos, he consistently looks out for her, often putting her safety above his own. His quiet strength and selflessness make him such a standout character.

Katniss, on the other hand, is constantly calculating — always thinking about the Games, the audience, and how the Capitol perceives her (as Haymitch often reminds her). And yet, she’s never a flat or cold character. Her fierce love for Prim, her bond with Gale, and the subtle, complicated feelings she has for Peeta show just how layered and real she is.

Even if she doesn’t say it outright, her love for Peeta is there — in the small actions, the moments she lets her guard down. I just wish she had let herself feel it more openly. That she had admitted it to herself, even if only in a whisper.

The ending? Completely broke my heart. Peeta deserves love — the same kind of love he so willingly gave to Katniss. And while she may not have been ready to give it fully, the ache of what could have been lingers long after the final page.
